Grammar Primary, Midton Road, Ayr.  (Tel: Ayr 266409) - Head Teacher, Mrs Gail Gilbert

The Academy has accommodation for 852 pupils. The school roll this session is 837 pupils.

Parents should note that the working capacity of the school may vary dependent upon the number of pupils at each stage and the way in which the classes are organised.

Accomodation

The accommodation provided for staff and pupils is of a good standard.  The main teaching areas are in the three storey Classroom Block, with specialist provision for Science, Languages, Business Studies, Computing, Home Economics and Art.  This is linked through the Administration Block to the Physical Education Block comprising Gymnasium and Games Hall.  The Dining Hall / Kitchen links a single storey Design and Technology / Music Wing to the main classroom block.  A new annexe was opened in session 2007/08 housing an assembly hall, e-learning suite and meeting rooms.

The school has very good ICT facilities.  We have nine well-equipped computer suites: two in Design and Technology, two for Business Studies and two for Computing, one in Pupil Support, one for general use and an e-learning suite.  All subject departments have computing facilities in their teaching areas and the Library is equipped with computers for pupil use. Whole school computer networking is in place with links to South Ayrshire Council headquarters for access to intranet, internet and e-mail facilities. Many classrooms are now equipped with interactive whiteboards, with plans in place to extend the provision to every classroom.

Outdoors, there are two rugby pitches, two hockey pitches, two soccer pitches and a hard court for netball.  The school grounds are well suited to a variety of outdoor sports and activities.  The school also makes use of the local swimming pool, squash courts, curling and skating rink, theatre and other specialist facilities.

While the school's facilities are not available for community use during school hours, evening and weekend lets may be arranged through the Children and Community Office, School Lets, Room G24, County Buildings, Wellington Square, AYR, KA7 1DR.
