MODERN LANGUAGES - SENIOR PHASE

National 5 French and Spanish

 

The National 5 French and Spanish course outlines include the following contexts;

 

  • Culture – cultural traditions and comparisons

  • Employability – applying for a job, careers

  • Society – family, healthy lifestyles, lifestyle choices and environment

  • Learning – school life and careers

 

These contexts are assessed in a prelim in January and the final exam in May. Pupils sit their final talking performance before Christmas. The final National  5 award is split up in the following areas;

 

Reading – 30%

Listening – 20%

Talking – 30%

Writing – 20%

 

N.B. Unit Assessments are completed in each of these 4 skills throughout the year which are graded pass or fail. These must be passed in order to sit the final exam in May.

 

 

Higher French and Spanish

 

The National 5 French and Spanish course outlines include the following contexts explored in further detail;

 

  • Culture – cultural traditions and comparisons

  • Employability – applying for a job, careers

  • Society –modern family, marriage, lifestyles and choices, environmental issues

  • Learning – school life and careers

 

These contexts are assessed in a prelim in January and the final exam in May. Pupils sit their final talking performance before Christmas. The final Higher award is split up in the following areas;

 

Reading – 30%

Listening – 20%

Talking – 30%

Writing – 20%

Advanced Higher French and Spanish

 

Due to numbers, these courses are currently offered at Queen Margaret Academy (French) and Greenwood (Spanish). Although these are not offered here at Kyle, we fully support all of our pupils who attend other schools for these courses and are at hand to answer any questions regarding these.
