MODERN LANUAGES - BROAD GENERAL EDUCATION

S1 Modern Languages
Pupils in S1 study French and have 3 periods per week.
The course outline includes the following topics, all of which are assessed in an end of unit assessment;

Revision – numbers, birthdays, personal descriptions and family descriptions

Les loisirs - musical instruments, leisure activities, technologies
-
Chez moi - talking about where you live and describing your home
-
La grammaire – A look at the present tense of ER verbs
S2 Modern Languages
Pupils in S2 study French and have 2 periods per week.
The course outline includes the following topics, all of which are assessed in an end of unit assessment;

En ville – local facilities and activities in our local area.

Au collège – School life in France v School in Scotland, subjects, likes and dislikes, teachers.

Manger sain – Healthy eating and Healthy lifestyles, ordering food and drink in a restaurant.
-
La grammaire – looking at the present tense in more detail – irregularities.



S3 Modern Languages
S3 pupils in S2 study French and have 2 periods per week.
The course outline includes the following topics, all of which are assessed in an end of unit assessment;

Oú j’habite – Advertising our town as a tourist destination
-
L’environnement – environmental issues affecting society
-
Tourisme - Holidays past and present and booking into a hotel
-
La grammaire – a look at the perfect tense in more detail
Spanish at S3
Pupils in S3 can choose to take on a second language – Spanish. One cannot replace the other at this stage. French remains compulsory. Pupils who choose Spanish have 2 periods per week.
The S3 Spanish course outline includes the following topics, all of which are assessed in an end of unit assessment;

Introduction to basics – numbers, birthdays, personal descriptions and family descriptions

El tiempo libre - musical instruments, leisure activities, technologies
