History and Modern Studies in the BGE
All of our courses in the BGE Courses have been designed to stimulate and challenge pupils, and to develop thinking and research skills.
S1-S2
Pupils in S1 and S2 come to Social Subjects three periods each week, studying each of the Social Subjects for one third of the academic year.
History
S1 - Swinging Sixties
S2 - The Rise of Hitler and the Holocaust
Modern Studies
S1 - Human Rights and Democracy
S2 - Freedom and Conflict
S3
Pupils who choose to study History and/or Modern Studies in S3 will be in the department for two periods a week per subject, and will study the following topics:

World Powers - China

World Powers – the USA

‘Street Law’ – a programme delivered through cooperation with the Law Society of Scotland
Pupils studying Modern Studies in S3 will also carry out a skills based project.
