CYCLE FRIENDLY SCHOOL

Kyle Academy – Community Cycle Trails.

In April 2013 the mountain bike trails and pump track within the school grounds were officially opened by Councillor Toner.   The new cycling facilities were fully funded by Scottish Government through the Climate Challenge Fund at a cost of £45,000.

There are three mountain bike trails which provide different challenges from the novice to the more advanced cyclist. Each trail is clearly signposted so cyclists can plan their route with all trails leading to the cycle path with runs adjacent to the banks of the River Ayr.

The pump track is an undulating man-made landscaped area which gives cyclists the chance to cycle off road in a challenging and safe environment.

Pupils and staff have a great incentive to cycle to and from school, which could cut down on congestion around the local community, reduce carbon emissions and it is a great fun way of improving mental and physical health.

Kyle Academy actively promotes sustainable modes of transport which includes walking to school and has built cycling into the physical education curriculum.  Kyle Academy is a recognised Cycling Friendly Secondary School, we have embedded opportunities for cycling to be embedded in the curriculum and have an established loan bike system for pupils to borrow bikes.
